Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. It is recommended to decant it for half an hour. Founded in 1899, Marengo is a historic, family-run Piedmontese winery located in the province of Cuneo. Now managed by the fourth generation, the estate owns approximately 4 hectares of vineyards situated across La Morra, Castiglione Falletto, Barolo, and the Roero area. The grapes originate from the historic Pugnane vineyard, situated at an altitude of just under 300 meters in the hills of the Castagnole Monferrato area. The vines, nearly thirty years old, are rooted in clay-and-silt soil with calcareous characteristics. After meticulous grape selection and careful vinification, the wine ages in barriques for 10 months; this process softens it without overpowering the natural, fruity freshness typical of the Barbera variety. In the glass, the wine reveals a vivid, brilliant ruby hue. Its aromatic profile displays characteristic lively, ripe red fruit notes interspersed with aromatic herbs and spices, set against a delicate forest-floor backdrop. On the palate, it is juicy and round, soft yet fresh, with a distinctive savory quality and crisp, refreshing acidity. It boasts a vigorous structure and a long, layered finish. Pair it with baked pasta dishes, roast beef, or hare or pheasant stew.
